Wild Atlantic Way 20: Kenmare and Beara

Pause in Kenmare before exploring a peninsula that reaches into both Kerry and Cork.

Time in Kenmare

Kenmare can make a useful base at this point in the journey. Look at the town’s visitor information and choose a room that suits the evening as well as the next morning. If you want to leave the car parked after arrival, check the walking route to dinner rather than relying on an address alone.

A peninsula across two counties

Beara spans Kerry and Cork. Its destination guide helps place the towns and coastal roads in context before you choose a route. Give the peninsula a considered visit instead of using a county boundary as the reason to hurry through. Check the suitability of individual roads for your vehicle and your confidence as a driver.

Choose the connection

A mountain pass or an additional coastal loop is a choice, not a requirement for completing the journey. Work out your route towards the Bantry area and leave space for a stop that interests you. If weather closes in, a shorter drive can be the better day.
