Wild Atlantic Way 23: Baltimore and Skibbereen

Combine a harbour visit with a deeper look at local history in this part of West Cork.

A harbour starting point

Baltimore provides a coastal focus for this chapter. Use the destination information to decide whether you want a village visit, a booked activity or time around the harbour. Island departures need their own plan; a boat visible at the quay does not establish a service or a return time for your visit.

History in Skibbereen

Skibbereen Heritage Centre offers a different kind of stop, including its account of the Great Famine. Give the subject time and check the current exhibition and opening information before travelling. A history visit can add much to a coastal break without needing to be dressed up as another scenic attraction.

Choose where to finish

Baltimore and Skibbereen can be explored from a local base, with the evening arranged around the place you are staying. If you are moving on towards Clonakilty, look at that connection before adding a crossing or a long walk. The closing chapter of the series still has a day’s worth of choices to offer.
