Wild Atlantic Way 22: Mizen Head

Make time for the signal-station visit at Mizen, then plan the next West Cork stretch.

A maritime visit

Mizen Head brings a signal-station story to a dramatic coastal setting. Consult the current visitor information before travelling and check what is open on your chosen day. The bridge and exposed setting are part of the practical decision as well as the attraction; ask about access requirements before buying a ticket.

Allow for the peninsula

A visit at the end of a peninsula takes more time than the final distance on a map suggests. Plan the drive, a meal and your return or onward route together. Bad weather may change the visit considerably, so have another West Cork option available rather than making an essential booking depend on it.

The journey continues

Mizen is a memorable stop, but it is not the southern end of the Wild Atlantic Way. Our remaining chapters continue through the Baltimore and Skibbereen area, then towards Clonakilty and Kinsale. Check which part of that onward journey suits the time left in your break.
