Wild Atlantic Way 11: Killary, Letterfrack and Connemara

Choose a national-park visit or an abbey-and-garden day as the journey enters Connemara.

Around Killary

The Killary area marks a change in the journey as it reaches Connemara. Work out your route towards Letterfrack before adding stops on both sides of the water. A drive, a walk and a boat excursion have different timings and requirements; book a particular experience only when it fits the day you want.

The park at Letterfrack

Connemara National Park is a natural focus for an outdoor visit. Start with the park’s own trail information and notices. Choose a route for the least confident walker in your group and allow for the surface, climb and weather. You can enjoy a park visit without making a summit the measure of success.

An abbey and garden alternative

Kylemore Abbey offers a different kind of day, with its visitor experience, Victorian walled garden and estate grounds. Read the current ticket details and opening information before choosing between Kylemore and a longer park outing. Combining everything can leave less time for the very places that brought you to Connemara.
