Wild Atlantic Way 12: Clifden, Sky Road and Roundstone

Build a western Connemara stay around Clifden, then choose a coastal drive or a village afternoon.

Clifden as a starting point

Clifden can provide a town base for this part of Connemara. Settle the practical details first: where you are staying, where you want to eat and how you will get back in the evening. That leaves the day free for a coastal outing without turning every decision into another search on the phone.

The Sky Road loop

Sky Road is a scenic drive associated with Clifden. Read the route information and check the road before setting off, particularly if you are driving a larger vehicle or cycling. Stop only where there is a permitted place to do so; the view is no reason to block a working road or an entrance.

Time in Roundstone

Roundstone offers a separate village stop on a wider coastal itinerary. Give yourself time to park, walk around and see what is open. The next chapter turns towards the Galway Bay side of the journey, so check the connection before promising yourself both an extended village visit and a late arrival elsewhere.
