Wild Atlantic Way 17: Ballybunion and North Kerry

Begin the Kerry stretch with a coastal stop, then choose a base for the next part of the journey.

Arriving in North Kerry

After the Shannon connection, North Kerry deserves more than a drive-through on the way to a peninsula. Ballybunion is one place to begin. Read the beach and destination information before deciding on a walk or a longer stay, and follow local notices when you arrive.

A practical base

The wider Kerry guide can help you compare Ballybunion and the Tralee area as starting points for the next few days. Look at the places you intend to visit and the evening you want to have. A room that reduces tomorrow’s drive may be more useful than one chosen only for a view.

Towards Dingle

The next chapter moves onto the Dingle Peninsula. Check that connection before extending a North Kerry outing, especially if a tour or accommodation arrival has a fixed time. There is no need to visit every beach or town to make this a worthwhile part of the journey.
