Kerry: choose Killarney, Dingle or Iveragh

Pick a Kerry base for the places you want to spend time in, rather than trying to see every peninsula.

Start around Killarney

Killarney National Park offers a visit organised around lakes, woodland and heritage. Choose a particular area or activity from the park’s visitor information rather than treating the whole park as one stop. A stay nearby gives you the option of returning to the same place without making each day a long drive.

A peninsula instead

If it is Dingle or the Iveragh Peninsula that draws you to Kerry, make that the centre of the break. Use the county guide to choose where to stay and which places to explore. A familiar touring name does not tell you how much of the day you will want to spend in a village or beside the sea.

Keep the evening in mind

Look at dinner, transport and arrival arrangements as carefully as the room and the view. An extra night can give you more time in one part of Kerry, rather than another reason to double the route. Islands and boat excursions need their own current checks. There is nothing unfinished about coming home with a different peninsula in mind for next time.
