Leitrim: Parke’s Castle and days by the water

Choose a town base or a northern Leitrim outing, with a castle visit and the waterways among the possibilities.

Find your Leitrim base

Carrick-on-Shannon, Drumshanbo and the northern part of Leitrim offer different starting points for a break. Choose according to the places you want to see and the evenings you would like to have. A town stay and a quieter country base each work best when the journeys around them are manageable.

A visit to Parke’s Castle

Parke’s Castle near Dromahair gives a day a heritage interest. Read the current visitor information and allow time for the experience available, rather than stopping only for a photograph outside. Glencar Waterfall is another possibility in the county guide, with its own access information to check before travelling.

Water on your terms

Leitrim’s lakes and waterways can be part of the setting without requiring an activity booking. If you do want a cruise or a paddling session, ask an operator about the trip and who it suits. The county’s Atlantic coast around Tullaghan is a separate northern outing, so keep that connection clear when planning an inland stay.
