Tipperary: Cashel, Cahir or a stay by Lough Derg

Choose a heritage day in a town or a separate waterside break in the county.
The Rock of Cashel, County Tipperary

Give Cashel a day

The Rock of Cashel offers a heritage visit built around its ecclesiastical buildings and their setting. Check the current visitor information, particularly if access to a specific interior is important to you. Leave time in the town afterwards rather than making the visit only an admission and a departure.

A castle visit in Cahir

Cahir Castle gives another Tipperary day a different historical subject. Choose it because you want time there, then look at the practical arrangements and the town around it. Lunch and a browse can sit comfortably alongside the main visit without another long drive in between.

A waterside break instead

If Lough Derg is the reason for the trip, choose a base around the part you want to explore. Find out what is available locally and research any boat trip or organised activity with its operator. You can enjoy a waterside stay without booking an activity at all. The county’s castle towns will still be there for a different weekend.
