Down: the Mournes, Strangford Lough and forest days

Choose a shore-facing stay, a house-and-estate visit or a day in Tollymore.
The Mourne Mountains, County Down

Choose your setting

A break around Newcastle puts the Mournes and the shore in the picture. Decide whether you want to look towards the mountains or plan a walking day in them: those are very different outings. For a mountain route, use appropriate route information and current advice before setting off.

Around Strangford Lough

Castle Ward offers a house-and-estate visit beside Strangford Lough. Check which spaces and experiences are available on your chosen date. Gardens, architecture and the wider setting can each give the visit a focus, without the day needing to revolve around a screen-location connection.

A separate forest day

Tollymore Forest Park is another County Down option. Give it a visit suited to the people travelling with you, rather than tacking it onto an already long mountain day. A selected route and lunch afterwards can make a satisfying outing. Choose a place to stay that supports your evenings as well as the landscape you want to explore.
