Stay with the city’s stories
Derry–Londonderry’s walls are one starting point for a city visit. A museum or a guided tour can add context to the streets and buildings around you. Choose a subject you want to understand and leave time for it, rather than trying to turn the city’s history into a quick circuit of landmarks.
A literary visit in Bellaghy
Seamus Heaney HomePlace follows the poet’s life and work in Bellaghy. Look through the exhibition information and current event programme when planning a visit. You do not need specialist knowledge of poetry to find a way in; reading a little beforehand can make the experience more personal.
Two places, two plans
Bellaghy and the city need a proper connection in your itinerary, especially if you are using public transport. You could choose a city base with a separate literary day out, or build the county visit around HomePlace. Keep an evening for food and a browse in the place where you are staying instead of setting off on another drive.
