Cavan: the Burren landscape or a museum day

Head west towards Blacklion for landscape, or make Ballyjamesduff the focus of a history-led visit.
Cavan Burren Park near Blacklion, County Cavan

Around Blacklion

Cavan Burren Park brings geology and archaeology into the same outing. Begin with the official trail descriptions and choose a route that suits the group and the conditions. There is plenty to notice without rushing: give yourself time to read the interpretation and look at the ground around you.

A different Cavan story

Cavan County Museum in Ballyjamesduff offers a day organised around the county’s history. Look at its current visitor information before choosing the visit, particularly if a specific exhibition or family activity is the draw. A museum day here and a landscape visit in west Cavan are distinct plans, each worth setting aside time for.

Lakes on the map

Cavan’s lakes are an appealing part of the setting, but access and activities need a little homework. Choose a managed visitor site or an identified operator if you want to take to the water. Otherwise, a town lunch and a landscape stop can be quite enough for the afternoon. Choose accommodation near the part of the county you are coming to see.
