Time around Carlingford
Carlingford gives a Louth break a town-and-lough setting. A selected section of the greenway can be the main outing, with a meal afterwards. Read the current route information and work out how you will return before setting off. There is no need to add another destination simply because the county looks small on the map.
An abbey visit instead
Old Mellifont Abbey offers a different afternoon near Drogheda. Take time with the surviving features and visitor interpretation. Check the site information when planning access: reaching the visitor centre and exploring the remains may involve different practical considerations.
Choose where the evening belongs
A Carlingford stay and a history-led visit near Drogheda suggest different bases. Pick the one that supports the outing and evening you want. If you are continuing across the lough or into County Down, check any ferry arrangements directly rather than relying on the line shown on a map. A straightforward local day works just as well if you would prefer to stay put.
