Choose the island, then the service
Start with the island you want to visit and find the operator serving your dates. Departure points, journey times and landing arrangements vary. Check that the service is a passenger crossing, a sightseeing trip or the particular excursion you intend to book; those descriptions do not necessarily mean the same visit.
Plan the return first
Read the return times, cancellation terms and weather arrangements before building the rest of the day around a sailing. Check access at both ends if steps, uneven ground or movement between boat and landing are a concern. Allow a margin before any essential onward connection.
A day on the mainland can stand alone
The Blasket Centre at Dún Chaoin tells the story of the Blasket community, language and literature from the mainland. It can be the purpose of a visit even when no crossing is planned. Check its seasonal opening information and keep other local options available if the sea changes your plans.
Bring the practical things
Ask the operator and local visitor information about facilities, footwear and what to bring. Carry what you need without assuming that food, shelter or toilets will be available wherever you land. Follow local access instructions and take your litter back with you.

Before you go
Confirm the exact sailing, landing and return arrangements with the operator. Weather can change a crossing even after a booking is made.
