Meath: Trim Castle and a Boyne Valley visit

Give a castle day or a visit to Brú na Bóinne the time it deserves, with a town pause around it.
Trim Castle, County Meath

Begin in Trim

Trim Castle offers a clear reason to spend a day in the town. Check the arrangements for the grounds, interiors and guided access before deciding how the visit will work. Leave time afterwards for lunch and a browse, rather than immediately setting off for another major heritage site.

A separate Boyne Valley day

Brú na Bóinne is another reason to visit Meath. Research the current booking process and arrival instructions before travelling. Finding a monument on a map is not enough to establish the entrance or the experience included in a ticket. Make it the main visit of the day if it is high on your list.

Stay with the story

Meath’s heritage places introduce very different periods and subjects. Choose the one that interests you, and use the interpretation to distinguish documented history from legend. If the group has mixed interests, one main attraction with a flexible afternoon is often easier to enjoy. There will be another day for the places you leave out.
